For today’s teens–and parents–free time is scarce. Just about everyone imagines what they would do if they had much more time to themselves, and how great they would feel as a result. But new guidelines from research psychologists debunk myths and help you get the most out of your free time. According to studies, you will (a) feel better when you have at least two hours of free time, (2) having too much free time–five hours or more–actually decreases your wellbeing, and (3) what you do during your free time matters. This makes sense. If you spend lots of free time being unproductive, you don’t feel great. But if you spend plentiful free time doing productive activities, you’ll experience peak wellbeing.
