While it’s true that newborns don’t come with instruction manuals, parents raising teens during an unprecedented global pandemic are truly flying blind. Caught totally surprised, we still feel unprepared two years later. With new variants of covid-19 traveling through communities differently, the circumstances we and young people face are constantly evolving. Trying to guide them through a world that suddenly turned upside down has been demanding, confusing, terrifying, and frustrating. Most painful has been watching teens suffer disproportionately from remote learning, social isolation, and cancelled college plans, internships, and jobs. It is no wonder so many parents these days are feeling utterly emotionally drained.
