This morning, I had a lively, wide-ranging conversation with Sue about raising teenage girls. Along with answering viewers’ spontaneous questions, we talked about everything from why mother-daughter tension feels inevitable, to how to handle hate on social media, to what mothers can do when teens’ hurtful behavior feels personal. We also got into why girls are so good at pushing mothers’ buttons–and how women can respond in those situations–as well as the challenge of women and girls having different temperaments. At the conclusion, we discussed what mothers often get wrong with teen daughters. If women want to improve conversations and mother-daughter relationships with girls, what might they focus on doing better?
