If You Want Teens to Tell You the Truth, Change Your Behavior

Although lying to parents may seem as much an adolescent rite of passage as acne, braces, and first kisses, it doesn’t have to be. Remarkably, many of this age group’s notorious evasions of truth and bold-faced lies can be avoided, leading to more mutual trust and parental peace of mind. But for that to happen, parents have to do some soul-searching—and perhaps make changes in their approach to budding teens.
